Biography

PIERRE CHAPO

Born into a family of craftsmen, Pierre Chapo received his architectural training at l’Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts in Paris. After graduating in 1958, he established his first studio in Clamart, France and subsequently opened la Galerie Chapo in Paris. In addition to featuring his own work, the gallery exhibited decorative objects, ceramics, lighting and Scandinavian design. He found inspiration in the work of Le Corbusier, Frank Lloyd Wright, Bauhaus, Charlotte Perriand in addition to his extensive travels throughout Europe and the United States. Pierre Chapo was a master wood craftsman which is reflected in his seminal works.
